help with editing videos

Hi,

Recently I've been thinking of making youtube videos and I have most things ready to start. The only thing I'm struggling with is editing my videos, I'm not asking for a guide on how to edit videos but help with a problem I'm experiencing. When I try drop my videos onto Sony Vegas or Moviemaker, it comes up with an error. here are the error messages

I looked into the properties and its a .MOV file

 

btw it doesnt work with windows media player, it only plays on VLC mediaplayer.

 

If anyone knows how to change the file type or give me the link to a program that reads this file then that would be ideal but if you have any other solutions , then please also help.
