Requirements
If it's your first time entering the Ancient Cavern, then you must bring with you a strung bow and an oak log.
The reason for this is that you must complete the first stage of the barbarian training for fire making,
which is taught by talking to Otto, who is a little South west of the dock in his house.
You must have 21 FM in order to do this.
A major recommendation is 85+ Range.
This is the bare minimum really, as i'm 99 range and i don't hit as well as i'd like to.
A second recommendation is having overhead prayers.
This isn't necessary, but helps with the initial tanking.
Waterfiends attack with both range and mage, so whilst your praying range,
its important to have a high mage defence bonus, as shown in the gear below.
Set Up
This is the Set Up that I Use, but Items Can be Replace as follows:
- Runecrafter Hat: Any Mitre or Wizard Hat
- Amulet of Ranging: Fury or Glory
- Accumulator: Any God Cape, but Accumulator is highly recommended
- Broad Bolts: Mith Bolts or above
- Rune Cbow: MSB
- Runecrafter Robe Top: Monk Robe, leather body, any God prayer robe top
- Unholy Book: Not necessary if your using an MSB
- Black Spikey Vambs: Regular Black Vambs
- Wizard Boots: Cimbing Boots
- Ring of Life: Ring of Wealth, Archers' Ring, Seers Ring
Inventory
This is Inventory that i recommend, but Items Can be Replace as follows:
- Once you get used to it, you can get it down to 1 prayer pot.
- If your lower range, it might be worth bringing more ranging potions.
- Sharks can be replaced with high level food, probably monks+ as you've got some initial tanking to do.
- Bunnyip isn't necessary, just helpful.
- Teletab again isn't necessary, if you feel you might accidently click it, don't bring one, just tele home when you need to.
Getting There
Use Your Games Necklace to Teleport to Barbarian Assault, The Deposit it in the Deposit Box
Once at Barbarian Assault, Head South until you reach a dock
Note, do not summon a familiar yet, as you cannot take it down into the whirlpool with you.
Once Down There
You'll be on a platform, before going down the stairs into the cave below
Getting to the Waterfiends
Now you must turn run on, and run the path shown below
Tip: You can now summon your familiar, and also turn protect from magic on whilst you run through the dragons
The Red Dot shows where you appear once you climb down the steps.
Follow the red line around until you reach the white dot, which is the spot i use.
There is another spot, closer to the enterance, but i find that tends to be more crowded.
Note, whilst running through the Dragons, keep protect from magic on and run like hell,
but once you reach waterfiends, switch to protect from Range.
Tanking
For your first ~10 Kills, they will be aggressive.
I suggest killing the waterfiend that spawns at the most north eastern point.
Safe Spotting
Once they become unagressive, you are able to safe spot them without any harm.
Below are the 4 different safe spots in this area.
1. The Primary Spot
2. Secondary spot, used for when they go above the rocks.
3. Third Spot used for when they become a pain and all collect on your side, forcing you to move to the other side of the rocks.
4. The last spot i wouldnt recommend using, but its an alternative.
Final Notes
In theory you can stay here as long as you have bolts,
so its a good idea to bring a MSB with you in your invent,
as they drop mith arrows at a rate that you probably won't ever run out of them.
Another key thing to note is that you make a profit here.
From 1k broad bolts i get approximately 180 crimsons, and ~5 blue charms, along with 500k+ in loot.
