[1.0] Introduction:

Hello and thanks for reading my range guide! I have created many guides on ranging spots but I decided to compile all of them together. I believe this is the most comprehensive and complete range guide around. Also this guide is geared towards pures (all spots are accessible by pures) but if you are a main you can use these spots as well. This guide was meant to be a f2p and p2p guide, but I exceeded the image amount limit so I separated them into two guides. If you want a members guide, your in luck! Here's the link to that guide:

http://purecommunity-rs.com/index.php?showtopic=4116

1. Experience (I measured this per hour.)

2. Drops (This will be rated on a 1-10 scale, 1 being the lowest 10 being the highest.)

3. Crowded (This will be rated on a 1-10 scale, 1 being the lowest 10 being the highest. This measures how many people there are in the training area vs how many monsters there are to kill. So if theres a lot of people and not enough monsters the scale will be high.)

4. Danger (This will be rated on a 1-10 scale, 1 being the lowest 10 being the highest.)

5. Retrievable Arrows (2 Possible Answers: Yes, No.

The reason for all these categories is that you can look at the pro's and con's of the range training spot and hopefully this will help you choose. (Generally there are multiple options for range training)

NOTE: Also remember, Ctrl+F is important. If you are looking for a section just press that, type in a keyword, and it should take you to the section eventually.

[2.0] Equipment

Buying equipment is vital to Range Training. You need armor, bows/crossbows, arrows/bolts, etc. Hopefully I'll show you a few places to get these.

[2.1] F2P Equipment

arrowsvarrockoj9.png

Thats the arrow shop in Varrock. Thatll have all the arrows and bows you need. In Free world there isnt a lot of options, so generally I'd go for the shortbows and arrows. Also I would go for cheap arrows. Range training should be as cheap as possible, and usually bronze arrows will get the job done.

40+ Equipment

f2pequipmentlp2.png

These are two places that are arrow shops and will supply you with all you need, at least if your using a bow.

[3.0] F2P Ranging Spots

Finally, we're to what you came for. The spots where you'll be training. I'll start from the bottom and move up. Remember the spots have 5 categories that will hopefully help you choose which ones you want to train at.

[3.1] Cows (1-20)

cowmaplo0.png

cowsjf3.png

Congratulations! Your F2P journey begins with cows. Basically you range them from the crafting guild. Just keep shooting them from behind the fence. If you want you can go and range them within the fences, but you might wanna bring some food as those 1's add up eventually.

Experience: Alright for this one since it wont even take an hour to get to level 20 I just timed how quick it took to get to level 20. 1-10 took me 19:38. (19 minutes 38 seconds) 10-20 Took 28:11. (28 minutes 11 seconds). That totals 47:49. And yes I used an account with 1 range to test this.

Drops: 2. I mean cowhides are worth 115 ea but you can only carry an inventory worth. If you really need money, I guess you could keep the cowhides.

Crowded: 4. Generally there's someone there, but there's so many cows to kill you can barely notice it.

Danger: 2. Cows hit 1's on you, and there's a fence you can hide behind. The danger is very small.

Retrievable Arrows: Yes. It will probably make your experience at this place longer, but overall if you wanted to retrieve your arrows you could.

[3.2] Monks (20-30)

monksmapft9.png

monksam7.png

Here is a safe spot. Its not needed but if you dont want to heal yourself then go with it.

monksafespot.jpg

The Monks might be the most classic and typical training spot for pures. They have good health, they hit 1's, and you can get healed up for free right at the spot. (For more information on this look at the pictures below)

How to get healed:

abbotlangleycv4.png

monkshealbt9.png

Experience: I got around 6-7k per hour.

Drops: 1. They drop bones.

Crowded: 8. Because this is such a famous training spot many people know and train here. And since there are only 5 monks it gets pretty crowded at times.

Danger: 3. They dont hit much, but you do have to fight them up close so they will hit you. But of course you can heal yourself so its not really dangerous.

Retrievable Arrows: Yes.

[3.3] Minotaurs (20-40)

ankoumappl0.png

Once your in the Stronghold of Security, head South until you cant head South anymore, and then head east until your in a room with wolves and Level 27 Minotaurs. Once your in that room you should see a fence and thats what your going to use to range minotaurs.

minotaursmq6.png

This place is fantastic. Ever since the introduction of the Stronghold of Security it has given F2P players a wider variety of things to train on. This is one of the best spots to train for low level range. This place is personally my favorite place for low level training.

Experience: 7.5-10k.

Drops: 7. They drop a lot of iron arrows... A LOT. You can almost train off of just the iron arrow drops they give you. Also they drop noted copper ore, tin ore, and pure essence frequently. The fact that these drops stack means you can really accumulate some cash. Its small money but when small money stacks it becomes big money pretty quick.

Crowded: 4. There's always a few people here, but with the amount of minotaurs you'll barely notice.

Danger: 3. Minotaurs can hit 2's, but you have a fence and Stronghold doors to protect you.

Retrievable Arrows: Yes.

[3.4] Black Fortress Guards (30-40)

fortressguardmapsi1.png

fortressguardbp3.png

I love this spot. It's not well known, pretty isolated, and unlike most spots where you cant retrieve your arrows, you wont have any trouble with your arrows reaching the monsters. Also, they respawn so quickly, thats always a plus.

Experience: 10-13k per hour

Drops: N/A (You wont be in the position to get them.)

Crowded: 1. This place is almost unknown, and it works really well. The only people you'll see is questers.

Danger: 1. Unless you try really hard you wont be touched.

Retrievable Arrows: No.

[3.5] Varrock Sewer Skeletons (30-40)

varrocksewermapkc4.png

When you enter sewers there'll be three ways to go from the ladder: Northwest, Northeast, and east. Go Northeast. Then head directly north and you'll be there.

varrocksewerskeletonskb1.png

I like this place. Skeletons get hit pretty easily, they have good defence, and the levels get burned through pretty easily here.

Experience: 9-12k per hour

Drops: N/A (You wont be in the position to get them.)

Crowded: 6. The three skeletons die pretty quickly and they dont respawn as quickly as you'd like so therefore you'll have some waiting time. Plus its multi so someone can take your skeleton.

Danger: 1 Nothing that can hurt you here.

Retrievable Arrows: No.

[3.6] Flesh Crawlers (40-60)

ankoumappl0.png

Once your in the Stronghold of Security, take the first portal and go to the second level. Once your there go North until you hit a room full of Flesh Crawlers.

fleshiesrj8.png

Yes, the famous spot for strength pures is usable as a range spot. Just stand near the doors and they cant hit you. This spot is works really well.

Experience: 12-16k per hour

Drops: 4. They drop bodies in great frequency, but honestly nothing worth it here.

Crowded: 8. It's rare to find less than 3 people in the room there, but honestly with how many flesh crawlers are in there plus how quickly they respawn it wont be that bad.

Danger: 4. They hit 1's, but they hit them frequently. And they are pretty aggressive but its not a huge danger.

Retrievable Arrows: Yes

[3.7] Craft Guild Hobgoblins (40-60)

hobbymapcf5.png

The cyan line leads to the "North Side" spot and the yellow leads to the "South Side" spot.

hobbiesnorthsidema6.png

This is what the North Side looks like.

hobbiessouthsidebq4.png

This is what the South Side will look like.

The only difference between the Two spots is experience, other than that its the same. I personally am a fan of the South Side. The South Side is better because all the hobgoblins are closer, so you have more options. Also once in awhile on the North Side if you attack someone it'll freak out and you start running East.

Experience: North Side=13-16k per hour. South Side 15-23k per hour.

Drops: N/A (You wont be in the position to get them.)

Crowded: 4. Once in awhile you'll see one person there, but there are two spots and you can go to the other spot or just switch.

Danger: 1. You wont be hurt here.

Retrievable Arrows: No

Ankous (60+)

Step 1:

Step 2:

Step 5:

Step 6:

step7qx8.png

If you havent been through it yet, use the maps of the floors and the lines to get through everywhere.

mappart1kj2.png

mappart2yo6.png

Now that your in there, here is how to navigate from the first floor to the 4th floor. There will be doors and passages you must go through (and answer questions about security of your account, which are extremely easy).

Its pretty simple how to get there, but watch out, in the 2nd floor + and on there are monsters that can do some decent damage on you.

f2psq1.png

This spot is in my opinion the greatest spot in f2p. Not only is the experience great from 60+, but you can actually make a profit while training! (Explained later) But you must be warned that this area is pretty dangerous. (Also explained later)

Experience: 20-40k per hour (I got 40k per hour when I was 87 ranged)

Drops: 10. It doesnt get any better in F2P. They drop noted mithril ore frequently, addy arrows, and laws. These accumulate quick and make training profitable.

Crowded: 4. Honestly there is rarely anyone here, but if there is you most likely have to world hop becuase there is only one spot and only one portion of ankous to attack.

Danger: 8. For F2P its pretty dangerous. Ankous hit decently hard (8's) but they seem to hit 8's a lot. The Ankou's and the Skeletons are aggressive for 15 minutes so bring a lot of food and make sure to keep attention until they arent aggressive.

Retrievable Arrows: Yes, but I suggest that you wait to retrieve your arrows until the monster arent aggressive or else you'll take a lot of hits.

Crandor Lesser Demons (60+)

tokaramjapart1ci5.png

tokaramjapart2mw9.png

Then walk to the wall and open it.

walltocrandoral9.png

Then follow the dirt and climb up the rope.

crandorlessermapqz8.png

crandorlesserbj5.png

This is a pretty great spot. A bunch of safe spots but this one is my favorite. Definitely bring some nature runes and a fire staff for all the alchable items you'll be getting. The only downside to this spot is you have to do part of the Dragon Slayer quest. DONT complete it though unless you want defence.

Experience: 20-30k

Drops: 7. People overrate the drops here. Sure the ocassional rune med helmet is nice (Alchs for a bit more than 10k) but other than that and a bunch of fire runes I dont see what's so great. But for F2P its one of the better ones.

Crowded: 6. This place is pretty popular and it should be. Luckily the quest requirement weeds out enough people to make it much less popular than it's counterpart.

Danger: 6. They hit pretty good but there's only one of them and you can run away easily.

Retrievable Arrows: Yes

Crandor Mossies (60+):

tokaramjapart1ci5.png

tokaramjapart2mw9.png

Then walk to the wall and open it.

walltocrandoral9.png

Then follow the dirt and climb up the rope.

crandormossiesnz9.png

mossies2ox8.png

I like this spot. Mossies have good health, pretty bad defence and a lot of secure safe spots. It is a multi spot though, so that might hurt your experience per hour, depending on how many people are there.

Experience: 15-25k

Drops: 6 Pretty good. Drops a few mithril things here and there, some death, chaos, nature runes. But they arent frequent enough to be a great drop spot.

Crowded: 7. It's multi, there are only 3 Moss Giants, and people are there generally.

Danger: 5. They dont hit too high, but they can be semi-dangerous if you arent paying attention.

Retrievable Arrows: Yes.

-Ankous 60-99

Updates:

-I have to split up the guide into F2P and P2P, once I do the P2P Guide I will provide a direct link.

-The F2P Guide is basically complete, I need to add the following things: (Grand Exchange and Control F). This will be after I complete the P2P Guide.

NOTE: If you have found a ranging spot that you think should be added into the guide, just post here, tell me, and then I'll definitely check it out. Also if it ends up in the guide, you'll be in the credit section.
