This is my issue with modern guitar. It's all just... fast.

 

Check out some Hendrix solos. Perfect combo of showmanship, speed, and melody. Hendrix SOUNDED amazing. That is just quick. I'm not saying he isn't talented but its pretty ******* boring.

Solos should have speed as well as technique behind it. A band that comes to my mind is Protest the Hero, having most of their melodic riffs being fast and technical.

I agree completely. When all you invest into a solo is speed the product is without any emotion and promotes no feelings what-so-ever, just the acknowledgement that the solo is difficult.
