  4. 01-Feb-2010 - Rune Mechanics Apprentice Clerval at the Mage Training Arena is utterly useless at magic...and pretty much everything else. He needs your help in getting his head around Rune Mechanics, our latest novice quest. In particular, he’s trying to build a rune guardian from scratch, something that hasn’t been done for generations. Rune Mechanics carries on for the Rune Mysteries quest, teaching those who have just learnt the basics of Runecrafting a bit more about the skill (namely, how to craft combination runes). Those adventurers who help Clerval may well find themselves with a brand-spanking new rune guardian pet on their hands. Certainly, the rune guardians that already roam the halls of the Mage Training Arena would be happy to introduce those unfamiliar with the place to the various Magic training challengers on offer. With enough training, any mage will one day be able to wield a master wand, sport some fancy infinity robes and turn bones into juicy peaches (should they want to). Well, any mage but Clerval... Summary: Where to start Rune Mechanics: Speak to Apprentice Clerval in the basement of the Mage Training Arena. Requirements to complete Rune Mechanics: Rune Mysteries Wolf Whistle 27 Magic 25 Construction 20 Runecrafting In other news... Based on your feedback, we've changed the stats on the Penance armours from Barbarian Assault. Check out this Knowledge Base page for more details on these items. We’ve added a second trident to Barbarian Assault's rewards. The original trident remains unchanged, but can now be upgraded to a master trident for free. The master trident has an Attack level requirement of 70 due to its increased melee combat stats (in addition to the Magic level requirement of 70 it shares with the original trident). We’ve updated the Adventurer’s log to contain a larger selection of NPCs including, but not limited to, the KBD, the Penance and Kalphite Queens, and the Corporeal Beast. A log will be created any time you defeat these creatures. Additionally, instead of spamming your log with “I’ve killed a creature” for every one that you defeat, it will now attempt to group these together in one message. We've added a feature to allow you to more easily reply to the last private message you received: just hit the ‘TAB’ key on your keyboard! We've changed the gnome restaurant and associated shops in a few ways. Firstly, if you complete a delivery task, the food and cocktail ingredients shops will be restocked. Secondly, we've adjusted the rewards for the deliveries, so you're more likely to get better items such as mint cakes or seed pods. All types of spirit shield have now been properly textured and should match the recently updated inventory icons. You may have noticed that cannons were not always hitting the enemy they were aiming at. The targeting code has been improved and should have more consistent behaviour in all directions. A more detailed explanation of how the ring of wealth works has been added to the this page in the Game Guide.
  5. 01-Feb-2010 - Chance of Double Law, Death and Blood Runes Based on player feedback to last November’s Runecrafting update, we’ve extended the ability of double-crafting runes to include law, death and blood runes. As the Runecrafting level to guarantee double-crafting of these runes would lie much higher than level 99 (following the pattern established in the rest of the skill), you will only have a chance of doing so, with that chance increasing the closer your Runecrafting level gets to 99. The ability to double-craft law, death and blood runes now means that it is possible to receive more than one of each type of rune from a single essence. The greater chance, at higher Runecrafting levels, of crafting two law, death or blood runes per essence should provide more incentive to train the skill through the last few levels.
  6. 01-Feb-2010 - Trading With Friends How much wealth you are able to trade with your friends has been made more generous. Exactly how much depends on how long you’ve been friends (i.e. how long you've been on each other's Friends Lists). If you’ve been friends for at least one month, your trade limit will be doubled; for two months your limit is tripled; and for three months your limit is quadrupled! As before, when trading, you will continue to be limited by whomsoever has the lower trade limit, but remember that you are able to increase your trade limit by earning Quest Points.

  10. Help an apprentice wizard to build a new rune guardian in our latest quest, a sequel to Rune Mysteries. It might be a walk in the park for seasoned runecrafters, but perhaps having your own pet rune guardian might entice you to help out the poor apprentice. View the full article
  11. To compliment today's novice quest, higher-level runecrafters now have a chance of receiving two law, death or blood runes from a single essence, with that chance increasing as your Runecrafting level approaches 99. View the full article

  13. As discussed in the recent blog, the Orb of Oculus is a new item available to all players (from Faruq in Al Kharid), which should help players interested in making machinima and other RuneScape videos to share with the community. View the full article
  14. The server was being hit by a hugely excessive amount of connections(~15,000), possibly a DDOS attack. I couldn't do anything to prevent this, couldn't access the control panel, SSH, or anything. So I had to contact my host. My host have now put up Cisco Guard, if you don't know what this is, research it. It we do not get anymore attacks for 24 hours they'll remove it, then if it happens again they'll put it back up. This should prevent the server going offline again. The host is currently compiling a report of the attack which I will look over and take the necessary action against the culprit(s). I apologise for any inconvenience caused.
  15. I know what you mean, but like you said. More often than not, there's always one of us online. I'm English Ceejay is from NZ, Tyler is American, pretty much got all the timezones covered. This is only really a trial, we'll see how it goes.
  16. Pure Warfare is pretty much established and growing every day. Over the last few weeks we've noticed moderation has become harder to keep on top of, so we're having a few changes to the current way we run Pure Warfare. All moderators, except the select few, will be given certain sections. This is down to where the perform well in, or we're they're most needed for their judgement. Other moderators which have proved themselves in all aspects of the forum will be given the Global Moderator rank, this means they will be able to moderate anywhere. This doesn't mean that the other moderators are worse than the Global moderators, not by a long shot. I think we've done well picking them and each moderator has done themselves proud. If they hadn't, they'd have been demoted, afterall it was only a trial period. Here are the current standings for the moderators: Brian - Clan Section Volt - Clan Section Kosherkid - Global Moderator Root - Global Moderator Retro - RuneScape Section Ryan - Off Topic Section Tyler - Global Moderator Ceejay has done a brilliant job lately, a lot of it behind-the-scenes. So as a result of this, I'm promoting him to Administrator.
  17. Due to overwhelming demand, we will be returning the 12-month membership card to the Jagex Online Store. At $60, or £40 each, they are fantastic value, and can be redeemed at any time. View the full article
  18. Well done guys, nice underbanners Ceejay :)
  19. 19-Jan-2010 - Barbarian Assault Improvements Some time ago, we released the minigame Barbarian Assault. From your feedback (and from playing the game ourselves) it’s become clear that the rewards were not quite up to scratch, so we have devoted some time to improving them. Although our focus has mainly been on the rewards, we also took this opportunity to alter some small aspects of the minigame itself (though we do also have a long list of other ideas for potential future updates). The list of changes is extensive, but here are some of the main ones to whet your appetite: New Penance horn that lets you gain double XP in Agility, Firemaking and Mining (in a similar fashion to the tools from Stealing Creation). New colours of abyssal whips. New Penance trident weapon. Penance armour stat improvement and Prayer restoring set bonus. Penance gloves now reduce more weight. Gamble points rebalanced (they still include a rare chance for dragon armour). Ability to show off your achievements in the roles of attacker, defender, collector and healer. High score tables for the attacker, defender, collector and healer roles. Waiting rooms increased in size. Additional wave room ticket system for saving progress through battles. Blue penance eggs now reduce the target Penance’s stats and deal damage. If you speak with Commander Connad at the Barbarian Outpost (you can teleport directly there with a games necklace) he’ll show you all the new rewards, which are also listed on the Barbarian Assault KB page. Bring on the Penance! In other news... The various dwarves of RuneScape have had a visit from the Makeover Mage, who has given their chatheads a new look. The Soul Wars cape from Nomad’s Requiem can now be stored in your POH costume room. Activating your special attack bar will no longer interfere with auto-cast timing. Players will no longer receive activity points in Soul Wars when bandaging players that are already at full health. Because of the recent snow we've been having, snowballs have stayed frozen for a bit longer than usual. The snow has now gone, though, so you'll find your snowballs will now melt, unless you have the snow globe from the Christmas 2007 holiday event.
