High tech is such a wide field in north america and all around the world. It is endless field of opportunities. I'm going to be working at RIM (Research In Motion) as a product analyst & design over the course of 6 months (My co-op term). It's a good paying job for a 20 year old university student (around $20/hr) along with benefits such as scholarship programs, 2 week paid vacations, dental benefits, health benefits, physiotherapy, and the list goes on. Every day the world is advancing technologically so this is an endless field like I said. Only problem is 60% of computer science graduates end up with carpal tunnel syndrome at some point in their lives for spending long hours on the computer. I have a friend who's doing international law at a nearby institution (4th year) and she is already offered a spot at a known law firm with a great pay and benefits. Don't know if law is slumping in England but here in Canada it's big bucks.

This is my test results from www.speedtest.net, a reliable source. Yours are higher than mine and I don't lag at all. So no, it's not your internet. My laptop specs Processor: AMD Turion 64 x2 Mobile Technology TL-64 2.20 Ghz Memory: 3GB Chip Type: ATI Radeon Graphics Processor (0x791F) Do what I said and we'll work from there.

Make sure you have all RS graphics set to minimum. Sometimes applications may be running by windows, you just don't know whether they should be running or not. Try and clear your cache/prefetch every once in a while as well as temporary files.. Like I said there may be application you have no idea exists that run on your computer, I'm assuming there is still software on your dad's computer so you should probably ask him before deleting anything unfamiliar. If after clearing all uncessary files you still lag then you need to change your graphics card.. Your p3 processor is fine and 2gb ram is more than enough for runescape.
