  13. It's too bad that stupidity isn't painful.
  14. I've been clanking since 2006, I got the years wrong. I'm only Fifteen so it's not like I could've been clanning since 2002?? Ergo, you can't possibly be old school.
  15. Best response I've read. Why is that? We can simulate many conscious and unconscious processes already and with the pace that neuroscience is moving forward I wouldn't be surprised to see a conscious machine before my death. What happens to your precious dualism when we can put together the material pieces that make up consciousness? I can tell you're a black and white kind of guy. (also arrogant, but I'll leave that out ;p) First of all, thank you for the detailed answer. I have no counter-argument here. I just wanted to hear the reasoning behind your argument and for the record, I fully agree. Here's where I stand: the subjective experience of consciousness can and propably will not be measured or described to its full extent. We can eventually describe every process leading to it but we will propably always fall short of the experience of consciousness. What then is this first-person experience? Philosophers since Descartes have described it as "mind" or "spirit" or "Absolute", ultimately meaning the same thing, an alternate substance to matter with the causal relationship having multiple explanations. The more interesting question to me isn't "what" consciousness is, it is "why" consciousness is. Reversed: Why are we not philosophical zombies? Takes one to know one, I suppose :teehee: This reminds me of a quote by the physician of one of the Egyptian pharaohs somewhere around 1500 BC: "The limits of human knowledge have not yet been reached" I think this is where we differ in thought, because I'll never go as far as say that something that can perhaps be done in principle will never be done in practice.

  17. Why? If we create a machine with a consciousness by duplicating all the neural processes that lead to consciousness, don't we have a consciousness consisting entirely of matter? What is consciousness if not matter? Hoping I live to see that day, then I'd probably stop believing in some higher power :whistling: (too bad it will probably never happen) If consciousness is not a result of the neural processes in our brain, how exactly does your higher power create consciousness?

  19. Is there a rule on capes in pure clan preps nowadays? Gj FOE

    Religion.

I don't think you quite understand what this central origin is. The central origin, singularity, in the big bang theory is a dot with infinite energy. If we were able to observe it, we would "see" pure energy, nothing more. There "is" no "prior to" big bang theory in science, because science studies things from this world, and this world and its laws from physics to mathematics were created in the big bang. What you are saying is that with a good telescope we can observe things that are not in this universe, like God and Flying Carrots.
  21. One of your members is LS co-owner. Nuff said. The reason some of them attack you as well is that they're unorganized massers and can't listen to / dont care about what their leadership wants. When I go out I'm openly anti-EOP, they are openly pro-EOP, that is all there is. EDIT: I'd also like to add that you're full of **** about FI. I've offered my help to FI in the past when I've been unable to get your locations otherwise, they refuse to accept it. Many other clans have accepted it with gratitude. I don't blame those other clans, but I have huge respect for John and the rest of the FI leadership for not lowering their standards even against a clan such as yours.

    Anarchism

Most non-natural monopolies are a result of government regulation. In a free market situation, monopolies that form are natural monopolies in one way or another (economies of scale, technological superiority, etc.) We will never achieve perfect competition, but we can achieve free markets, these are two different things.
